    Attorney

    East Tennessee is the ideal place for Kevin, a transplanted North Carolinian, because he enjoys a variety of outdoor activities and is an avid tennis player who has been part of Frantz, McConnell and Seymour, LLP since 2007. Kevin specializes in tax, estate planning, immigration and landlord tenant law, as well as probate, bankruptcy, business litigation, real estate litigation, media law, general civil litigation and tax law, including tax return preparation. Before deciding to practice law, Kevin was a licensed CPA from 2002 to 2004 performing accounting in his hometown of Cherryville, N.C. His extensive background in accounting and the practice of law provides him with a unique set of skills to provide specialized solutions for his clients. Kevin has appeared in a number of levels of state court and he is licensed to practice in the U.S. Federal District Court for the Eastern District of Tennessee and the U.S. Tax Court. He also is a member of the Knoxville and Tennessee Bar Associations and the Knoxville Estate Planning Council. Offering his clients a highly beneficial skill set, Kevin’s combined accounting and legal credentials present them with a unique perspective as he has effectively merged the two, successfully helping businesses and individuals analyze their situations.   • Michael (Mike) W. Ewell

    Attorney

    A native of Dyersburg, Tennessee, Michael headed east after deciding the University of Tennessee was the ideal college for him. He graduated with a B.S. degree in 1985 and a law degree in 1988. Prior to joining Frantz, McConnell & Seymour, LLP, Mike was privileged to serve as a Judicial Clerk to the Honorable Houston M. Goddard, Tennessee Court of Appeals, Eastern Section during his third year of law school. Mike concentrates his practice in the areas of creditor and trustee bankruptcy, banking and commercial transactions and litigation and business law, including employer/employee relationship documentation and litigation. He is admitted to and has appeared before state and federal trial courts throughout East Tennessee, as well as state and federal appellate courts.   • Matthew (Matt) A. Grossman

    Attorney

    Matthew, who grew up in Knoxville, is a third-generation lawyer who places a high priority on building relationships with his clients and making certain they know he is always accessible to them. An excellent listener who truly hears what his clients are saying, he’s also known for developing creative solutions to the issues they face. Practicing in a varied number of fields, Matt specializes in real estate title litigation, municipal and government relations, as well as tax and business planning, complex litigation and defense of the First Amendment.   • Robert (Bob) L. Kahn

    Attorney

    Robert’s clients know without question that no stone will go unturned as his rigorous attention to detail is unrivaled. Dissecting the most complex documents before tackling each and every concern, his practice is concentrated in real estate, business transactions and corporate law, bankruptcy and contract and commercial law. Bob, who also writes appellate briefs in the state and federal courts, has extensive experience in drafting and reviewing leases, purchase and sales contracts, and entity organizational documents, providing cost effect legal services for his clients. Celebrating his 35th year with Frantz, McConnell & Seymour, LLP, Robert has also served as a managing partner. Bob attended the University of Tennessee and has undergraduate degree from there in architecture in addition to his J.D.     A graduate of Carson Newman University, Reggie attended the University of Tennessee College of Law, graduating with High Honors and Order of the Coif in 1984, the same year he joined Frantz, McConnell & Seymour, LLP. A true advocate for his clients, Reggie’s expansive experience in representing individuals and businesses helps him to better resolve their complex legal concerns. With 30 years experience in civil litigation, Reggie’s focus is on construction (where he has represented contractors, owners and design professionals) government related contracts, ERISA, business, commercial and products liability. Extremely active in both the legal profession and in his community, Reggie enjoys volunteer work while also serving on a number of boards.   • John M. Lawhorn

    Born just a few miles down the interstate in Oak Ridge, John M. Lawhorn is the quintessential East Tennessean. He grew up in this area and attended college at Carson-Newman University in Jefferson City before returning to Knoxville and his East Tennessee home. After graduating from University of Tennessee College of Law in 1987, he moved to the gulf coast where he gained his first 3 years of experience practicing law. While there, he was admitted to the Alabama Bar, as well as the Florida Bar. By early 1990 however, John was ready to return to Knoxville and soon thereafter was admitted to the Tennessee Bar and joined Frantz, McConnell & Seymour, LLP. John’s greatest strengths are his dedication to his clients’ needs and his exceptionally knowledgeable, responsive representation of them. He puts his clients at ease by quickly addressing any questions or concerns they might have and makes certain they understand their legal situation completely while also presenting them with every available option. John practices primarily in the area of labor and employment law, which includes workplace discrimination, harassment, retaliation claims, labor/management relations, employment contracts and advising employers on statutory and regulatory compliance issues under both federal and state law, including OSHA, FMLA, ADA and wage and hour laws.   • Mary Elizabeth (Mary Beth) Maddox

    Attorney

    Friendly, approachable, and genuinely concerned about her clients’ concerns and issues, Mary Beth truly enjoys litigation and having the opportunity to represent them in the courtroom. Her commitment to making certain her clients avoid needless litigation and paying any unnecessary costs is one of her greatest assets. Another strength for Mary Beth – and her clients - is the diversity of her practice. With a primary focus on workers’ compensation and personal injury, Mary Beth litigates all over Tennessee in accident cases, malpractice claims, and workers’ compensation. A graduate of the University of Virginia in 1991, Mary Beth returned home to Tennessee where she received her J.D. from the University of Tennessee College of Law in 1994. She joined Frantz, McConnell & Seymour, LLP in 1998 and became a partner in 2003. Away from the office, Mary Beth enjoys spending time with her husband, also an attorney, their two children and their yellow lab.   • Benjamin (Ben) C. Mullins

    Originally from Clintwood, Virginia, Benjamin chose to move a bit further south when selecting the perfect law school for him - the University of Tennessee. After graduating in 1997 he immediately joined Frantz, McConnell & Seymour, LLP as an associate attorney and in 2007 became a partner. Known as a straight shooter who is extremely thorough, Ben’s clients realize quickly that he puts them first, is always available and is very empathic regarding whatever issues they are facing. Eighteen years of experience provides him with the type of confidence and knowledge required to protect and advocate for them. Benjamin’s practice focuses on zoning and land use, as well as personal injury, along with general civil litigation, insurance defense, products liability defense, construction litigation and business litigation. He has represented hundreds of clients at every level of state court, from General Sessions Court to the Tennessee Supreme Court, and also in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Tennessee. Due to the ever evolving legal system, Benjamin has been involved with several legal organizations, including the Knoxville and Tennessee Bar Associations, the Defense Research Institute, Tennessee Defense Lawyers Association, UT Alumni Law School Council (2009 - 2012) and he was a 2004 graduate of the International Academy of Defense Counsel's Trial Academy.   • Beverly D. Nelms

    Attorney

    Like many of members of Frantz, McConnell & Seymour, LLP, Beverly is a lifelong East Tennessean and a proud Volunteer. The best word to describe her practice is diverse. After receiving her J.D. from the University of Tennessee in 1993, she joined the firm, first as a law clerk and then as an attorney in 1997, before becoming a partner in 2002. Beverly also has served as managing partner for the firm. Throughout an extremely successful career, Beverly’s communication skills have helped put her clients at ease while earning their trust and respect. An apt listener, her goal always is to provide a comfortable atmosphere for each and every one of them. Beverly’s practice concentrates on construction law, arbitration and mediation and personal injury, as well as insurance defense, workers' compensation, and conservatorships. Currently, she is expanding the scope of her practice to include alternative dispute resolution of conflicts in the areas of construction and health care. A Rule 31 listed general civil mediator, she has appeared at each level of state court in Tennessee, as well as the U.S. Federal District Court for the Eastern District of Tennessee and the Tennessee Department of Labor.   • Richard (Rich) T. Scrugham, Jr.

    With his focus on being the absolute best advocate possible for his clients, Richard truly cares about the people he serves and makes it a priority to provide them with timely, effective and efficient legal representation and advice. Rich practices in the areas of civil litigation, estate planning (wills and trusts), estate litigation (will contests and estate claims), probate administration, conservatorships, business law, real estate law, landlord/tenant, employment law, and personal injury. Rich also has experience representing financial advisors and counselors in customer complaints filed with FINRA (Financial Industry Regulatory Authority) through seeking expungement of prior improper and untruthful claims. He belongs to the Knoxville and Tennessee bar associations, and is active in the Tennessee Veterans Business Association and the Farragut/West Knoxville Chamber of Commerce. Richard, who has lived in Knoxville for most of his life, graduated from Duke University in 1993 and received a J.D. from the University of Tennessee in 2000. The third generation of his family to serve on active duty in the military, he was a squadron intelligence officer in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Eisenhower. Outside of the office, Rich’s passions are his family, their miniature schnauzer, and volunteering. He and his wife have three sons and they enjoy hiking and camping together. Very active with his sons in Trail Life USA, a Christian outdoor adventure program for boys, he also is a past board member of Big Brothers Big Sisters of East Tennessee, the local branch of the nation’s largest youth mentoring organization. Richard also is an avid reader with a special affinity for history and politics.

  • Richard E. Graves

    Attorney

    A Tennessee native and a true Volunteer at heart, Richard, who obtained both his undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Tennessee, couldn’t imagine living and working anywhere but Knoxville. Richard, who maintains a general civil practice with an emphasis on real estate law and zoning and land use, thoroughly enjoys helping his clients navigate through and solve their legal issues. While in law school, Richard received awards for his appellate litigation clinic, contract drafting, constitutional law, Chapter 11 bankruptcy and property courses. After graduating magna cum laude from law school in 2015, Richard was nominated to the Order of the Coif. Prior to joining Frantz, McConnell & Seymour, Richard, a member of the Real Estate Law Section of the Tennessee Bar Association, served as a law clerk to Justice Sharon G. Lee of the Tennessee Supreme Court. Outside of the office, Richard enjoys spending time with his family and friends, following college football, and spending as much time as possible in the majestic Smoky Mountains.

  • Sharon H. Kim

    Attorney

    Knoxville has been Sharon’s hometown since immigrating from Seoul, South Korea as an infant in 1985. She graduated from Farragut High School and earned her Bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Tennessee. After graduating from college, Sharon lived in South Korea for two years where she taught English as a second language to Korean middle school students. In 2011, Sharon moved back to Knoxville to earn her J.D. from the University of Tennessee’s College of Law. As a third-year law student, Sharon clerked for the Honorable Judge Bill Swann of the Knox County Fourth Circuit Court and served as a student attorney for the Innocence and Wrongful Convictions Clinic. In recognition of her advocacy on behalf of the clinic’s clients, Sharon received the 2015 James L. Powers III award. Prior to joining Frantz, McConnell & Seymour, LLP in 2020, Sharon practiced with the law firm of Finkelstein, Kern, Steinberg & Cunningham, P.C. for nearly five years. Throughout her practice, Sharon’s focus has been in the areas of general civil litigation, appellate practice, probate administration, Tennessee Adult Protection Act litigation, contract law, real estate law, and construction law. Sharon is also a member of the Knoxville and Tennessee Bar Associations. Guided by her commitment to best serve her clients, Sharon believes in being direct, thorough, and efficient – all while maintaining a respectful attitude. Aside from being a lawyer, Sharon is a 4th degree Taekwondo black belt and an instructor for Tennessee Taekwondo Judo College.   • Rebekah P. Harbin

    Attorney

    Rebekah was born and raised in Knoxville, Tennessee and she is proud to call it her home. After graduating from Powell High School, she attended the University of Tennessee, Knoxville where she graduated Magna Cum Laude with a degree in English Literature in 2016. She decided to continue her education at the University of Tennessee College of Law, focusing her studies on business transactions, general civil litigation, and real property law. While in law school, she served the Knoxville community through the Domestic Violence Clinic by representing domestic violence victims in the Fourth Circuit Order of Protection Court. She received a CALI Excellence for the Future Award for her work in this clinic. Rebekah joined Frantz, McConnell & Seymour as a law clerk in 2018. She remained with the firm in this capacity until joining as an Associate Attorney in 2020. She hopes to use her zealous advocacy, thoroughness, and attention to detail to serve the Knoxville Community. She is a member of the Knoxville and Tennessee Bar Associations.   • Michael A. C. Lee

    Attorney

    Michael joined Frantz, McConnell & Seymour, LLP, after moving from Houston, Texas. Seeking to be closer to family in Tennessee, Georgia, and the Carolinas, and prizing the beautiful lands of southern Appalachia, Michael and his family decided to make East Tennessee their permanent home. Focusing primarily on trial practice, Michael enjoys building and proving cases. He is a determined investigator who can break down technical or complex details to find what really matters. One of his greatest strengths, though, is communicating that information in a way that is easy for others to understand. Michael’s main practice areas are construction law, contract disputes, consumer protection, fraud claims, and real estate litigation. Outside of work, Michael enjoys arboriculture, hiking, outdoor cooking, and spending time with his family.

  • Jamey M. Minnihan

    Jamey is a persistent litigator focusing her career on general civil litigation, estate planning, and family law matters. Her experience includes representation in state, federal, and courts of appeals. Her clients range from the simplest of mediations to the most complex matters involving high assets and high conflict. Jamey is sensitive to her client’s issues while dedicated to aggressively advocating for their interests. Jamey graduated from Eastern Washington University, with a Bachelor’s degree in Education, cum laude, and a Master’s degree in Education, summa cum laude. She earned her law degree from Gonzaga University, magna cum laude. In law school, Jamey served as Managing Editor for the Gonzaga Law Review and as a member of the Moot Court Honors Council. She received the Cali award for Excellence in Advanced Legal Research, International Employment Law, International Intellectual Property, and Contract/Sports Law, and the Ladas Memorial Award. Jamey’s experience includes work as an Assistant Attorney General with the Washington State Attorney General’s Office, County Prosecutor, and private firm civil and domestic litigation. She has also served as an adjunct professor at Gonzaga School of Law.
